Vortex Highlights DVD delays

Proof that Vortex Highlights DVD is in progress

Proof that Vortex Highlights DVD is in progress

We’ve had a few inquires about the Vortex Highlights DVD from people looking to buy it and from people who pre-ordered it at the event in May.  We’ve replied to all inquires directly but to those who haven’t emailed us and are wondering where their DVD is then we want to apologise for the delay.  After some hold-ups getting approval from all guests to be featured on the DVD, a series of delays including having to completely dismantle and rebuild my video editing computer (which took a lot longer than expected), being out of the country on three occasions for several weeks and injuries that prevented me from sitting at a computer for several more weeks, production is finally under way.

But enough about the excuses, most of you just want to know when it will be available.  At the rate things are going I expect to have it finished by the end of January, but allow and extra week or two for the unforeseen as preparation for Vortex II may have to take priority now and again to keep things on-track for May.

With nearly nine months passed since Vortex, I’m going to contact everyone who pre-ordered to make sure your postal address is still the same before any DVDs are sent.  Once all pre-orders have been fulfilled it will be made available to buy through the website.

More updates and information about Vortex II will be made soon.

90% of tickets sold

by Thomas on Apr.17, 2009, under Personal, Vortex

Just a very quick update.  90% of tickets for Vortex have now sold.  If the current rate of ticket sales continues then all tickets will sell out before the event and no tickets will be available to buy on the door.

Vortex is now officially our largest event (previously Hellmouth).

I finished my course in South Africa (heading to graduation in 5 minutes) and I’ll be returning to the UK this weekend so all tickets will be sent out next week.

Tardis materialises in Belfast

by Denis on Apr.12, 2009, under Personal, Vortex

As Thomas mentioned before this has been one hectic week, what with him being in South Africa on his course and sorting out the tickets and me here working on the event building and constructing and promoting.  Well myself and Jono after spending 3 solid days of hard work and many cuts and bruises from building it,  The Tardis materialised into Belfast yesterday right in front of the City Hall witnessed by more than a few passers by.  Much fun was had by people wanting their photo taken with it and one even asking for a lift home.  We met many people who are very excited about Vortex and can’t wait to go.  Some asked what was inside the Tardis to which we said, “You’ll see on May 3rd”.

Tickets and Vortex Schedule

by Thomas on Apr.12, 2009, under Personal, Vortex, Website

I’m finally up-to-date with tickets.  The latest batch were sent out this morning.  If you haven’t got yours yet then it’s for one of two reasons.  It’s either got stuck somewhere in the internet tubes (email us and we’ll send them again) or you didn’t provided the information we asked for when booking a ticket.  In the later case, you’ll have an email asking for the necessary information.  Just reply with the details and we’ll send you your tickets.

To those who are intending to buy tickets, please read the information on the booking page.  It makes life so much simpler for me when processing bookings.

I’ve added a few more questions and answers to the FAQ and posted a provisional schedule, the same one you’ll have received in your update with your tickets.  Like the page says, use this schedule as a guide to plan your day but small changes are likely so check the website the day before the event for the final schedule.

Finally, I hope you all enjoyed the Doctor Who Easter Special.  Unfortunately I won’t get a chance to see it ’till I get home next Sunday.  I’m trying to avoid spoilers but I gather from twitter and Facebook statuses that it’s gone down pretty well.

Hope you’re all having a good Easter.

Hectic week

by Thomas on Apr.11, 2009, under Personal, Vortex

As most of you know from a previous blog, I’m down in South Africa at the minute on a training course.  I’ve had a hectic week, culminating with a day long exam on Friday, and now I’m studying for a “pass or fail the entire course” exam on Monday morning.

It’s also been a hectic week for UT Events since our Dalek appeared on the mountain over Belfast bringing a lot of media exposure to our little event.  That’s meant a whole heap of bookings that I haven’t had time to process yet.  I’m going to get as many eTickets sent out this weekend as time allows but if you booked towards the middle or end of the week then please be a little patient.  I’ll get to your booking soon.

And like we’ve said previously, if you have your PayPal Confirmation then you have a ticket.  Don’t panic just because you don’t have a message directly from us in your inbox.

South African Adventure

by Thomas on Mar.22, 2009, under Personal, Vortex

Hello everyone in UT Events land.  I just want to let you know that I’m currently in South Africa.  I’ve been here a week already and I have another four weeks to go before returning to Belfast.

I’m staying in Hout Bay (wikipedia) outside Cape Town and even though it’s warm, sunny and I can see palm trees from my sea-view apartment window, I’m not here on holiday.  Other than a break for lunch and dinner, I’m going non-stop from 7am till about 8pm Monday to Friday and have a few things on at weekends too.  That’s making it a bit difficult to keep information flowing to the website and to send eTickets.

Even though it’s a third world country, the internet tubes still stretch to here and I have net access as long as the power stays on.  A batch of tickets were sent out last night, which brings us up-to-date with all tickets sold so far, but it could be next weekend before I get time to process any more bookings.  Just rest assured that if you have your PayPal receipt, you’ve got a ticket.

Denis is still in the UK and will be on the end of the phone and answering emails sent to info@utevents.co.uk.  He’s also working on a lot of promotional stuff for us so keep an eye out for that over the next couple of weeks.

For me, it’s back to working on the Convention Booklet on my Sunday off when I could be laying on the beach or watching the sunset. Don’t feel too sorry for me though.  I’m still having a great time.  Follow me on Twitter if you’re interested.

The Daleks are here!

by Denis on Feb.06, 2009, under Personal, Vortex

Waking up this morning to a blizzard of snow was a pleasant sight indeed, given that i have spent a week complaining that Enlgand got all the snow and we got left out. So in honour of VORTEX i went out onto the streets and made….

Can we build it? Yes we Dalek Caan!

Can we build it? Yes we Dalek Caan!

I’ve got to admit i’m quite proud. It got quite a bit of interest from passers by as i had people honking their horns and even a few stop thier cars to come over and take photos.

So… If you have got some snow near you, go out and build somthing from Doctor Who out of it and send us the pictures.
