Vortex was a roaring success

by UT Events on May.04, 2009, under Vortex

We have taken our trip through the Time Vortex into the world of Doctor Who, Torchwood and the Sarah Jane Adventures and returned with so many wonderful memories and stories to tell!

Vortex was an amazing day and we would like to say thank you to everyone who came along to see the props, displays and most of all our fantastic guest stars Gareth David Lloyd, Paul Mark Davis and Chipo Chung.  You made them feel so welcome during the Q&A, autograph session, photo session and Ianto’s Coffee Club Meet & Greet.  They enjoyed every minute they spent with you, the fans.

It has taken many months to prepare this event and we are delighted that all our hard work paid off.  The Daleks, Tardis, Empty Child, K-9 and Lady Cassandra went down a storm and we saw so many people having their photos taken with them.  Our Ood and Clockwork Droid spent the day walking around the event meeting all the children and families.  We hope you liked having the chance to experience what its like to be at the controls of the Tardis on our stage set and thank you to everyone who came up to take a photo and gave a donation to the Children’s Hospice to do so.

The Weakest Link and Fancy Dress were hilarious and we hope you enjoyed the entries as much as we did and congratulations to the Fancy Dress winners for all the hard work they put in to their costumes.  The Dalek and mini Cyberman where so cute!  And well done to the winners of our Weakest link games.

Post a blog comment to tell us about your memories of the event and email us your photos (or a link to where they’re posted) so we can compile a photo gallery on the website as we rarely get to take pictures of our own.

We look forward to seeing you all again at the next UT Event!

We came, we saw, we put a giant Dalek on a mountain!

by Denis on Apr.05, 2009, under Vortex

After two days of hiking up Belfast’s Black Mountain and robbing my family of every spare bed sheet, we have finally made a giant Dalek on the side of the mountain that over looks the city.  I knew it would be tough but not as tough as it was.  That thing has a 50 degree slope!!! and to lug three huge Lidl shopping bags full of sheets along with wooden pegs, water and a hammer to the position that was best to place the image it was a nightmare!  But so worth it I think!

Snow Dalek makes the news

by Thomas on Feb.09, 2009, under Vortex

So, last night I was looking at pictures of the snow on the BBC News website and thought I’d submit the Snow Dalek that Denis built yesterday. This morning the BBC had it featured in their In Pictures photostream on the Northern Ireland section of the site.

I also had an email from them asking to speak to the person who built it. They wanted to use it for a news feature (it must have been a slow news day!). Unfortunately the Dalek was exterminated during the night and there was nothing for them to film. So we built a new one.

Snow Dalek 2

Yatta!

Yatta!

The proud owners of a new Snow Dalek

When I say “we”, I mean Denis built a new one and I showed up in time to make a few snowballs for him to stick around the base. Check out our Flickr stream for a few more photos.

The news crew took some footage of construction, got some local kids to throw snowballs while they filmed a leadout and then interviewed Denis.  The result is now streaming on the BBC News website. There’s also a copy on YouTube for those outside the UK who can’t access the BBC’s iPlayer footage.

The Daleks are here!

by Denis on Feb.06, 2009, under Personal, Vortex

Waking up this morning to a blizzard of snow was a pleasant sight indeed, given that i have spent a week complaining that Enlgand got all the snow and we got left out. So in honour of VORTEX i went out onto the streets and made….

Can we build it? Yes we Dalek Caan!

Can we build it? Yes we Dalek Caan!

I’ve got to admit i’m quite proud. It got quite a bit of interest from passers by as i had people honking their horns and even a few stop thier cars to come over and take photos.

So… If you have got some snow near you, go out and build somthing from Doctor Who out of it and send us the pictures.
